FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgy and can be used in the smelting of ferromanganese in the crucible of an induction furnace. In the method, before loading and melting the charge materials to produce a ferromanganese melt, a protective layer is created in the crucible of the furnace by sintering the lining material in two stages, the first of which is carried out by melting and removing the resulting melt from the furnace, then, with the inductor constantly turned on, pieces of fraction ferromanganese 50…600 mm are charged to the bottom of the heated crucible, which are heated in a temperature range of 1,240…1,650 °C until a liquid-phase melt layer is obtained, after which the charge material is charged by charging pieces of ferromanganese of fraction 1…50 mm and a ferromanganese melt is produced in the furnace with secondary sintering of the lining of the crucible to obtain a hardened protective layer in the crucible, after which up to 80 % of the resultant ferromanganese melt is discharged, some of the melt being left in the furnace for subsequent remelting.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to carry out the process of melting the ferromanganese of the fraction 1–600 mm.
