FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of iron smelting in electric arc furnaces. Metallurgical silicon carbide, carbon, metal part of the charge is charged onto the furnace, the metal part of the charge is melted and the chemical composition of the melt is adjusted to standard values. After loading of metallurgical silicon carbide and carbon, non-metallic part of charge is compacted. After completion of operation of vibration compaction of non-metallic part of charge the components of metal part of charge are charged. After charging of charge materials into the furnace, the charge is melted. When performing the main charging of non-metallic part of the charge, silicon carbide of metallurgical fraction of 0–10 mm and carbon of fraction of 0–13 mm are used. Adjustment of the chemical composition of the melt to standard values is carried out by introducing into the melt, separately or in any combination, steel scrap, steel and foundry cast irons, as well as metallurgical silicon carbide, and/or carbon, and/or ferroalloys.
EFFECT: reduced carbon loss.
