FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing docosahexaenoic acid. Method involves alkaline hydrolysis of fish oil, neutralization of fatty acid salts with mineral acid, recovery of free fatty acids, two-stage crystallisation of free fatty acids in ethyl alcohol in the presence of urea, filtration, addition of water to the filtrate, recovering docosahexanoic acid from the filtrate with an organic solvent and evaporating to obtain the end product. Prior to performing two-stage crystallisation, free fatty acids are extracted with hexane, crystallisation is carried out at the following ratio of components: free fatty acids : urea : ethanol – 1:3:18, kg/kg/l, at first step, crystallisation is carried out for 3–5 hours at temperature of 18–22 °C, and crystallisation at second stage – 12–24 hours at temperature of minus 20–25 °C, as a mineral acid during neutralization of fatty acid salts after hydrolysis hydrochloric acid is used, and organic solvent used to extract docosahexanoic acid from the filtrate is hexane.
EFFECT: disclosed is a method of producing docosahexaenoic acid having a pronounced biological effect.
