FIELD: radio engineering and communications.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to paging of a communication device in an expanded coverage. Technical result is achieved by a method performed by a node of a radio access network for paging a communication device in a coverage area served by a radio access network node, in a communication network, the method comprising: receiving a paging request from a core network node, wherein the paging request comprises indicating a support level of the communication device, the support level of which indicates whether the communication device supports the radio access technology operating mode, RAT; and determining, based on indication of the support level of the communication device and based on the possibility of the coverage area to support the operation mode of the RAT channel for paging the communication device in the coverage area or not to paging the communication device in the coverage area.

EFFECT: avoiding paging failures, high intensity of successful paging attempts and low consumption of paging resources in a communication network.
