FIELD: instrument engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical instrument-making and concerns a universal optical current meter. Current meter includes hollow high-voltage insulator, laser light source, first polariser, Faraday cell magneto-optical element in form of quadrangular glass prism, second polariser in form of Wollaston prism, lens, differential photodetector, electronic unit with indicator and interface. Light source polarizers, photodetector, electronic unit with indicator are arranged in lower part of high-voltage hollow insulator and are under zero potential. Magneto-optical element of Faraday cell is fixed in upper part of high-voltage insulator and is located in longitudinal magnetic field of fragment of conductor of high-voltage line. Quadrangular prism comprises a first base with a mirror-like coating in the center of the strip. Second prism base comprises two polished inclined surfaces with mirror coatings.

EFFECT: technical result consists in providing the possibility of measuring both AC and DC, simplifying the design and improving measurement accuracy.
