FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly oncology, and can be used to reduce clonogenic activity of tumor stem cells of breast cancer. Method involves 72-hour exposure of tumor cells in vitro to DNA-binding ligands – water-insoluble dimeric bis-benzimidazoles. Tumor cells are sorted into two populations: stem and septum cells and in day to water-insoluble dimeric bis-benzimidazole with 5 methylene links in the linker (DB (5)) or water-insoluble dimeric bis-benzimidazole with 7 methylene links (DB (7)) are added to the sorted cells. After three days cells are washed from compounds and 8 days are cultivated in standard conditions at temperature of +37 °C to CO2-incubator with 5 % content of CO2, followed by fixing and counting the number of colonies containing at least 50 cells.

EFFECT: use of the given invention allows reducing clonogenic activity of tumor stem cells of breast cancer that allows to increase chemo-and radiosensitivity of tumor, and, in its turn, will promote higher clinical effectiveness.
