FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to experimental medicine, oncology, and can be used to suppress the inducing effect of high molecular weight hyaluronic acid on breast cancer stem cells. A 72-hour in vitro exposure of tumor cells to DNA-binding ligands, water-insoluble dimeric bisbenzimidazoles, is carried out. Cells are simultaneously incubated with water-insoluble dimeric bisbenzimidazole with 7 methylene units in the DB linker (7) and hyaluronic acid with a molecular weight of 1 to 3 kDa at a temperature of +37°C for 72 hours. After that, a decrease in the number of tumor stem cells with the CD44+CD24-/low immunophenotype is recorded.
EFFECT: method provides the possibility of reducing the number of tumor stem cells (TSC) induced by exposure to high molecular weight hyaluronic acid of 106 Da and more, due to the fact that in vitro breast cancer cells are affected by DNA-binding ligands - water-insoluble dimeric bisbenzimidazoles, which leads to suppression of the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition, leading to dedifferentiation of tumor cells and replenishment of the TSC pool.
