FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly oncology, and can be used to reduce the number of tumor stem cells (TSC). Method for reducing the number of stem cells of breast cancer involves 72-hour exposure on tumor cells in vitro of DNA-binding ligands – water-insoluble dimeric bis-benzimidazoles. Incubation is carried out with water-insoluble dimeric bisbenzimidazole with 5 methylene links in linker DB (5) or water-insoluble dimeric bisbenzimidazole with 7 methylene links DB (7) in vitro at a temperature of +37 °C for 3 days, after which amount of CD44+CD24-/1ow tumor stem cells is evaluated.
EFFECT: use of the given method reduces amount of OSK, which are more chemo-and radioresistant than the rest mass of tumor cells, which allows to increase chemo- and radiosensitivity of tumor as a whole, which in its turn will promote higher clinical effectiveness.
