SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of determining a category of an unknown certificate, as well as a method of blocking network connections with resources from prohibited resource categories. A method of determining categories of an unknown certificate involves obtaining an unknown certificate; determining similarity of unknown certificate for known certificates, categories for which are defined, where category for known certificate is determined by content of corresponding known network resource certificate; assigning an unknown certificate category a certificate to which the certificate is considered similar as a result of determining similarity.
EFFECT: high efficiency of determining the category of an unknown certificate for further blocking network connections with resources from prohibited resource categories.
