FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing a power cable and a power cable. Power cable comprises at least one conductor containing conductor and foamed and cross-linked insulation layer surrounding said conductor. Method of producing the cable involves steps a)–d): a) providing a mixture of a polymer composition containing a polyolefin material, where the polyolefin material carries silane fragments, a catalyst and a foaming system. Mixture contains at least 0.1 % by weight and not more than 1 % by weight of foaming agent of total weight of polyiodine material. Further, at step b) method comprises extruding mixture from step a) onto conductor to produce insulation layer. At step c) foaming of insulation layer is performed and at step d) layer of insulation is sewed together.
EFFECT: invention provides good quality control of the power cable and the foamed and cross-linked insulation layer, since the process parameters can be more optimized for the foaming stage due to the need to take into account the grafting.
