FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry and can be used in industrial production of abrasive and lubricating materials, as well as tools. First, a reaction sample is formed by mixing 92–96 wt% carbonyl iron and 4–8 wt% of graphite. Obtained sample is heated to obtain diamond at temperature of 1,160–1,500 °C. Heating is performed either in vacuum conditions within 10-1–10-2 Pa, or in an inert atmosphere, for example in argon, or in air until formation of melt at ratio of volume of air in vessel to volume of melt, which does not exceed 50:1. Melt is tempered by immersing vessel with melt into water or at direct contact of melt with water. Temperature of used water from 0 to 100 °C. Diamond is extracted by treatment with aqua regia.
EFFECT: invention reduces synthesis time of diamonds of micron and submicron size using a two-component mixture of iron and carbon close to the eutectic composition.
