FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to liquid preparations of the smallpox virus. Liquid preparation of the smallpox virus comprises a smallpox virus with titre of 107 up to 1012 PFU (plaque-forming units)/ml, a pharmaceutically acceptable buffer selected from TRIS-HCl, TRIS, HEPES and tricine in concentration of 10 to 50 mM, a monovalent salt selected from NaCl and KCl in concentration of 10 to 1000 mM, a pharmaceutically acceptable disaccharide or a sugar alcohol selected from sucrose, trehalose and mannitol in concentration of 5 to 20 % (w/v) and a pharmaceutically acceptable chelator, selected from ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), ethylene glycol tetraacetic acid (EGTA) and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) in concentration of 50 to 250 mcM, where the pH of the preparation ranges from 6.5 to 8.5. Also disclosed is use of a pharmaceutically acceptable chelator for stabilizing the smallpox virus against UV damage.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides stability of smallpox virus in storage.
