FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing a catalyst for dehydrogenating alkanes to alkenes, in which: (a) obtaining a spent catalyst from an oil refining process, (b) calcining the spent catalyst to remove coke, (c) optionally spent catalyst is crushed to obtain spent catalyst support, (d) obtaining a metal-containing solution by mixing a desired metal-containing compound(s) with a solvent, where the metal in the metal-containing compound is selected from at least one of the groups including VB, VIB, VIII and the lanthanide series, and where at least one metal is selected from the group of alkali metals, and where the solvent is selected from toluene or demineralized (DM) water, (e) treating the spent catalyst or waste catalyst support with a metal-containing solution to obtain a wet catalyst mixture or wet catalyst particles, (f) drying a wet catalyst mixture or wet catalyst particles to obtain a dry catalyst mixture or dry catalyst particles, (g) optionally repeating steps (e) and (f), (h) calcining the dry catalyst mixture or dry catalyst particles to obtain catalyst. Invention also relates to an alternative method of producing a catalyst, to a catalyst obtained using the disclosed methods, as well as to a method of dehydrogenation of alkanes to alkenes using a catalyst.
EFFECT: technical result is obtaining an efficient catalyst which accelerates the alkane dehydrogenation reaction to alkenes.
