FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metals machining by cutting. Method of setting up a lathe involves selection of a standard cutter with average cutting capacity, setting of a reference cutting mode when the part is turned by this cutter and further processing of parts by working cutters at the specified cutting mode with possibility of its change. As reference one, maximum cutting speed is selected at provision of preset processing length and part diameter within tolerance limits, and the obtained part profile is used as a reference when turning the parts by the work cutters, in which the diameter is measured during turning, at that, if it deviates from the reference values, the cutting speed is changed.
EFFECT: use of the invention provides higher quality of machining.
