FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of blade processing of metals and can be used to measure the temperature state of the cutting process during turning by the method of a naturally formed thermocouple. The method includes fixing a metal workpiece on a lathe by means of a chuck and a rotating center, while the metal workpiece is electrically isolated from the chuck and the rotating center, and processing the workpiece by means of a cutter electrically isolated from the machine, during which the thermo-EMF is measured using a millivoltmeter connected by electric wires to the cutter and to a current collector electrically connected to the workpiece. In this case, the wire connecting the millivoltmeter to the current collector, the stop, the rod and the wire connecting it to the workpiece are made of the same material as the metal workpiece, and the wire connecting the millivoltmeter to the cutter is made of instrumental material, while electrical the wires are placed in a container with ice.

EFFECT: use of the invention improves accuracy of measuring thermo-EMF during turning.
