SUBSTANCE: invention relates to generation of an image for an autostereoscopic display. Such a result is achieved by generating a display image for display panel (503) of autostereoscopic display, which projects a display image in a plurality of viewing cones. Source (803) provides a three-dimensional view of a scene to be displayed and generator (805) generates a display image from a three-dimensional view. For each pixel, generator (805) determines direction indication of scene viewing point, reflecting direction of viewing point for scene, in response to the direction referencing function and indicating the viewing cone projection direction, which reflects the projection direction for the pixel in view cones. Direction referencing function reflects the relationship between the viewing cone projection directions and the scene viewing point directions. Pixel value corresponding to the viewing point direction is then generated from the three-dimensional view. In addition, processor (809) determines viewer characteristic and adapter (811) for adaptation of direction referencing function in response to viewer characteristics.
EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of image quality and reduction of crosstalk.
