FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a continuous method of producing methionine by alkaline hydrolysis of methionine hydantoin in an aqueous phase, removing NH3 and CO2 from hydrolysis medium and neutralization of obtained methioninate. Method is characterized by that after removal of NH3 and CO2 hydrolysis reaction medium is concentrated to precipitate Na2CO3, which is separated and then reused for alkaline hydrolysis, which is carried out in the presence of NaOH and Na2CO3.
EFFECT: disclosed method enables to obtain high-purity methionine and substantially reduces the amount of sodium sulphate formed.
