FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for synthesis of organic xerogel based on isocyanates, used to produce foams and production of composite materials. Method comprises the following steps: a) obtaining a polyisocyanate composition, b) optionally obtaining a composition reacting with isocyanate groups, c) optionally obtaining at least one catalytic compound promoting formation of polyisocyanurate, d) obtaining an organic non-reactive solvent composition, e) optionally obtaining additional additives, f) combining compositions (a), d) and optionally b) and/or c), and/or e) to form a gel and g) optionally removing unreacted molecules, h) replacing the organic solvent with water, i) drying the porous mesh under subcritical conditions to remove water and obtain an organic xerogel.
EFFECT: method allows avoiding or considerably reducing shrinkage of gel during removal of solvent, as a result of which low density of xerogel can be achieved even in presence of small pores.
