SUBSTANCE: present invention refers to pharmaceutical or cosmetic industry. Method of producing hyaluronic acid butyrate or its salt with an alkali metal, acceptable for pharmaceutical and cosmetic use or use in a medical device, involving reaction of hyaluronic acid, optionally in form of a salt with sodium or other alkali metal, in an aqueous solution with butyryl-imidazolide in the presence of sodium carbonate. Use as a cosmetic agent of a composition containing hyaluronic acid butyrate or a salt thereof, acceptable for cosmetic use, obtained using the above method, and at least one excipient and/or carrier acceptable for cosmetic use. Use of a medical device comprising hyaluronic acid butyrate or a salt thereof, suitable for use in a medical device, obtained using the method described above, as an adjuvant in the treatment of skin lesions, such as inflammations, ulcers and injuries caused by hyperthermia induced by radiation, for example UV (ultraviolet), X-ray or gamma radiation.

EFFECT: invention enables to obtain hyaluronic acid butyrate which does not contain residues of any solvent or basic activator.
