FIELD: chemistry; medicine.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a hyaluronic acid derivative, a process for its production and use in bio medicine. Proposed is a hyaluronic acid derivative according to the structural formula X or a hydrated form thereof with the structural formula Y:

where R is H, tetra-C1-C6-alkylammonium or a metal cation, a molecular weight of from 1 to 500 kDa. Proposed derivative can be obtained by hyaluronic acid dehydrating, oxidized to aldehyde at the glucosamine unit position 6, in the glucosamine unit positions 4 and 5 in a water / polar aprotonic solvent mixture at a temperature of from 30 to 80 °C. Hyaluronic acid derivative can be modified by reaction with an amine of the general formula H2N-R2, where R2 is a linear or branched C1-C30-alkyl; either with an amino acid or a peptide; either with a polymer.
EFFECT: proposed are new derivatives, which can be effectively used as biologically active substances carriers in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, for obtaining of tissue engineering materials and biomedical applications.
