SUBSTANCE: invention additionally relates to methods of producing cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose, compositions containing cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose, and methods of using cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose, for example, for treating overweight or obesity, or for enhancing glycemic control. Described is carboxymethyl cellulose crosslinked with citric acid to reduce calorie intake, reduce body weight, treat obesity, enhance glycemic control, treat or prevent diabetes, and/or for use as an absorbent material, obtained by a method involving cross-linking carboxymethyl cellulose with citric acid, where viscosity of said carboxymethyl cellulose in form of 1 % (w/w) aqueous solution at 25 °C is more than 6000 cP and the polydispersity index is less than 8. Also disclosed are a method of producing cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose, cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose, a pharmaceutical composition comprising a cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose method of treating overweight or obesity in a subject, method of intensifying glycemic control in a subject, a method of treating or preventing diabetes.

EFFECT: technical result is improved absorption and rheological properties of cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose.
