FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in internal combustion engines equipped with systems for recuperation of heat of exhaust gases and cooling of recycled exhaust gases (EGR) by means of heat exchanger. Method for engine (10) consists in that exhaust system (150) is operated in first mode with direction of exhaust gas flow to exhaust pipe (35) through heat exchanger (176). Exhaust system (150) is operated in the second mode with recirculation of the first part of the exhaust gases into inlet header (22) and the direction of the second part of the exhaust gases into exhaust pipe (35) through heat exchanger (176). Level of condensate accumulated in heat exchanger (176) is evaluated, and if the condensate level is higher than the threshold value, exhaust system (150) is operated in the first mode. Embodiment of the method for the engine and an engine system are disclosed.
EFFECT: technical result consists in providing the possibility of cooling the exhaust gas and reclaiming the heat of the exhaust gases by means of a common heat exchanger.
