FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: methods and systems are proposed for recuperating heat of exhaust gases and catching hydrocarbons in an exhaust bypass unit. Method includes steps in which: in the first mode, a flow of engine exhaust gases is supplied through an exhaust gas bypass channel in a first direction through a heat exchanger upstream and then through a downstream hydrocarbon catcher installed in the specified exhaust bypass channel, and then into an exhaust pipe. In the second mode, at another time, a flow of engine exhaust gases is supplied through an outlet channel, then in the second, opposite direction, through the hydrocarbon catcher and then through the heat exchanger, and then to an engine inlet. Exhaust bypass channel is connected to the engine inlet through an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) channel upstream from the inlet to the heat exchanger through an exhaust gas recirculation valve, in the first mode, the exhaust gas recirculation valve is closed, and in the second mode, the exhaust gas recirculation valve is open.
EFFECT: hydrocarbon catcher is designed with the possibility of blowdown with hot exhaust gases with the possibility of heat recuperation from the exhaust gases at the heat exchanger.
