FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to self-crosslinking compositions and use of said compositions in solvent-based intumescent coating. Binder self-crosslinking composition contains a copolymer obtained by reacting the monomer mixture in the presence of an organic solvent, wherein said monomer mixture contains from 2 to 7.5 wt% carboxylic monomer comprising (meth)acrylic acid, itaconic acid, maleic acid, fumaric acid or a combination thereof, from 60 to 90 wt% of a polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing styrene, alpha-methylstyrene, t-butyl styrene, vinyl toluene or a combination thereof and from 7 to 35 wt% of a cross-linkable acrylamide monomer containing N-(alkoxymethyl)acrylamide. Also described are intumescent coatings containing said self-crosslinking binder and substrates with applied intumescent coatings.

EFFECT: considerable improvement of set of hardness after drying, improved parameters of coal slump and density of coal, increased time of achievement of steel with applied coating of critical temperature of failure.
