FIELD: food industry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the food industry. Method for stunning and/or slaughtering animals comprises placing animals in a sealed chamber and closing it; creation of vacuum inside the chamber, which ensures absolute pressure exceeding 200 Mbar and below 845 Mbar, wherein recording actual pressure inside chamber by pressure sensor; measurement of volume of air remaining in the chamber, which is in direct proportionality between pressure and volume, based on actual readings of the pressure sensor, which recorded pressure, adding to the chamber at least one gas capable of causing stunning and/or slaughtering animals, wherein in case of carbon dioxide (CO2) addition or a combination of carbon dioxide (CO2) with inert gases percentage of supplied gas relative to volume of air remaining in chamber after pressure reduction is equal to or higher than 30 %, and in the case of carbon monoxide (CO) or a mixture of inert gases, such as argon and nitrogen, the percentage of the gas supplied with respect to the volume of air left in the chamber after pressure reduction is 1 % or more. System for stunning and/or slaughtering animals enables to program the stunning and/or slaughtering cycle by controlling the vacuum created in the chamber, the amount of gas supplied and, as a result, the percentage of oxygen in the chamber, and the time of animals staying in the chamber.
EFFECT: proposed solution makes it possible to find the ideal compromise between the desire to optimize costs and necessity to comply with requirements concerning well-being of animals.
