FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of producing alditols and glycols from biomass. Disclosed is a method of producing at least two target products - target alditols and target glycols as conjugated products, involving successively decomposition of biomass-based material to form a fibrous mass and a biomass hydrolyzate stream containing C5-monomer sugars, containing sugars with 6–12 carbon atoms, cellulose, glucose, hemicellulose, oligomeric compounds based on hemicellulose, solubilised lignin and impurities; separation of biomass into fractions and selective removal of cellulose to obtain lignin and mixed enriched stream C5- and C6-saturates, where ratio C5- and C6-saturates is 25–75 %; removal of lignin enriched with lignin and C5- and C6 flux sludge to form enriched C5- and C6 flow sugars; conversion of enriched C5- and C6 flux sludge and hemicellulose oligomers into monosaccharides by hydrolysis; monosaccharides are continuously hydrogenated to form mixed stream C5- and C6-alditols; separation of first target product - target alditol or target mixture of alditols from mixed stream C5- and C6-alditols with discarding residual mixed flow C5- and C6-alditols; continuous hydrogenolysis of residual mixed stream C5- and C6-alditols with formation of mixed flow C2-C4-glycols and separation of second target product - target glycol or target mixture of glycols from mixed stream C2-C4-glycols; wherein at least 10 % of the total yield of the end product is either a target alditol/desired alditol mixture or a target glycol/target mixture of glycols.
EFFECT: technical result is that the proposed method is highly efficient and characterized by low complexity, improved manoeuvrability, reduced amount of wastes and higher overall output compared to traditional methods aimed at obtaining alditols or glycols.
