FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical heat treatment, specifically to vacuum ion-plasma nitriding, and can be used in machine building to increase reliability and durability of wide range of parts of machines and tools made from steel. Method for ion nitriding of a steel article in a glow discharge comprises feeding a working gas mixture into a nitriding chamber, heating the steel article to nitriding temperature 500–540 °C with curing for 4–6 hours and simultaneous generation of crossed electric and magnetic fields in a nitriding chamber. Said steel article heating is performed by means of nitrogen plasma of high density, which is formed in toroidal area of electrons rotation by means of crossed electric and magnetic fields, wherein adjustment of current strength and magnetic induction of the electromagnetic system is used to change the configuration of crossed electric and magnetic fields so that the treated article is completely within the said fields. Simultaneous generation of crossed electric and magnetic fields in nitriding chamber is performed by means of electromagnetic system, above which processed articles are placed.
EFFECT: higher rate of processing articles of different shapes and sizes by ion nitriding.
