FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method of low-temperature ion nitriding of steel products in a magnetic field involves performing vacuum heating of a product in a nitrogen plasma of increased density that is created in the toroidal region of oscillating electrons moving along cycloidal closed trajectories formed in the crossed electric and magnetic fields. Before ion nitriding, an ultrafine-grained structure of the product material is formed by intensive plastic deformation by torsion, which ensures the process of diffusion saturation of the surface layer with nitrogen during nitriding.
EFFECT: increasing contact durability and wear resistance due to the formation of ultrafine-grained structure of the material.
