FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metals treatment by surface plastic deformation and vacuum ion-plasma nitriding and can be used in engineering and other industries to handle a wide range of machine parts and tools made of steels. Method of low-temperature ion nitriding of steel article in glow discharge plasma includes cathode sputtering, vacuum heating of product in glow discharge plasma consisting of mixture of nitrogen-containing and inert gases. This heating of the article in glow discharge plasma is carried out at a temperature of 430 °C, at that, firstly, surface intensive plastic deformation is performed by ultrasonic treatment of surface of steel product with a tool feed S=2 m/min, operating frequency f=22 kHz and rotation speed of part N=30 rpm.
EFFECT: low-temperature treatment in glow discharge is ensured, strength and tribological characteristics of surface, contact durability and wear resistance of steel parts are increased.
