SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to instrumentation, namely to sensors for movement of structural elements of various mechanisms and assemblies, including CNC machines, robot manipulator assemblies, as well as to medical equipment. Method of measuring shift with automatic correction of measurement error by using a programmable optical displacement sensor includes reading the image of the working surface, analysing the read image, calculating a shift as a difference between the current and previous images, characterized in that when analysing the read image, it is compared with the templates programmed into the read-only memory of the optical sensor, wherein each of the templates is associated with a function, an absolute or a relative coordinate.

EFFECT: technical result consists in reduction of shear measurement error.
