FIELD: smoking accessories.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to filters used in smoking articles. Smoking article comprises a smoking material and a filter located downstream of the smoking material and containing a filter material, wherein the filter material comprises a sheet of hydrophobic paper containing hydrophobic groups covalently bonded to the paper, wherein the hydrophobic groups are formed by reacting a fatty acid group with the protogenic group of paper, and wherein sheet of hydrophobic paper includes paper corrugated along longitudinal direction of sheet and assembled in transverse direction to produce cylindrical filter element.

EFFECT: technical result of invention is creation of smoking articles, which contain filtering elements made of sheets of paper, which can preserve sensory perception of conventional filtering elements based on cellulose acetate tow, which poorly absorb water or moisture contained in inhaled smoke or aerosol passing through smoking article, and absence of hydrophobic paper effect on taste of smoke or aerosol generated by smoking article.
