FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a system and a method of controlling windows. Technical result is achieved due to that the optical state of one or more windows with variable optical properties is controlled by the windows control system and interacts directly using the windows control system, through an application programming interface (API) with at least one other system selected from a group consisting of a lighting system, a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, a security system and a home appliance control system.
EFFECT: technical result consists in providing data exchange between independent systems involved in controlling functions of buildings having devices with variable optical properties.
