FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a coating based on AlCrN, which provides exceptional resistance to crater wear during dry cutting operations, for example, in gear milling. Coating applied on the surface of the substrate contains a multilayer film consisting of several layers A and several layers B applied alternating and forming an A/B/A/B/A… structure, in which layers A contain nitride of aluminium-chrome boron, and layers B contain aluminium chromium nitride and do not contain boron. Said multilayer film contains at least the first part and the last part, besides, the average content of boron in the first part of the coating is higher than average content of boron in the last part of the coating. Residual compression stress in first part is lower than in last part of coating. Disclosed is a method of making said coating, in which a multilayer film is made using physical deposition from the gaseous phase. First part of the coating and the last part of the coating in the multilayer film are applied using the same coating application scheme, including the same targets and the same coating application parameters, except for the displacement potential. To apply the first part of the coating in the multilayer film, a negative bias potential is used, which is in absolute value below the negative displacement potential used to apply the last part of the coating in the multilayer film.
EFFECT: providing a coating which significantly reduces crater wear and wear along the rear surface of the cutting tool, improves performance and increases service life of the cutting tool.
