FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method includes cooling of the cake by sprayed cooler, change of cooling medium consumption along the secondary cooling zone depending on the speed of cake drawing and regulation of cooling intensiveness by cyclic supply of the cooler. The cycle period is calculated according to the formula T=τ1+τ2, time of cooler feed - according to the formula: τ1=(L*α1*α2)/ (V*100), shutdown time of the cooler feed - according to the formula: τ2=(L*K1)/(V*100), and liquid phase length - where a, b - sectional dimensions of cake, V - metal casting speed, α1 - coefficient connected to the content of carbon in the steel, α2 - coefficient connected to the content of alloying additions, K1 - coefficient connected to steel grade, K2 - coefficient of steel hardening, mm*min-0.5.
EFFECT: cooling of the cake by sprayed cooler.
