FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and may be used in forming rectangular section articles. Proposed method comprises pouring metal into crystalliser, drawing ingot from crystalliser at variable rate, supporting and directing the ingot, secondary cooling by water or air-water mix sprayed by nozzles as cones. Specific consumption of coolant along secondary cooling zone is varied depending upon drawing speed from maximum value under crystalliser to minimum value at zone end. Secondary cooling zone along ingot wide edges is divided into three sections, that is, central and two peripheral section. Coolant feed and shut-off are alternated in time for central and peripheral sections. In compliance with second version, coolant feed and shut-off are alternated in time and overlapped in time. Coolant shut-off time is defined by formula depending upon liquid phase length, ingot thickness, casing speed and steel branded gauge.
EFFECT: higher quality of ingots.
