SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding of HDR images. Method of decoding a code stream for reconstructing an image of a high dynamic range with detection of presence of changes in the base layer includes steps of: base layer data, one or more APP11 marker segments, a first checksum parameter and residual relationship data for a high dynamic range (HDR) image are received. Parameter of the second checksum is calculated, parameters of the first and second checksums are compared to determine presence of changes in the base layer, decoding an HDR image based on the base layer data, residual relationship data and a comparison result of the first checksum parameter with the second checksum parameter.

EFFECT: providing an object structure for storing, exchanging and reproducing images of a high dynamic range, which is backward compatible with existing image viewing technology.
