FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing lithium aluminate, suitable for use in production of fuel elements based on molten carbonates, as well as in nuclear technology. Method of producing lithium alpha-aluminate involves mechanical activation of a mixture of lithium carbonate with aluminium hydroxide in the form of gibbsite and heat treatment of the mixture. Before heat treatment, the mixture is subjected to mechanical activation in a ball mill for 2–4 hours, and heat treatment is carried out at temperature of 625–650 °C for 4–6 hours.
EFFECT: simple method of producing lithium alpha-aluminate, shorter synthesis time, obtaining a finished product with phase purity higher than 99 % and specific surface area of more than 10 m2/g.
