FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of inorganic compounds of lithium and aluminum, namely lithium pentaaluminate. The method includes mechanical treatment of a mixture of aluminum hydroxide in the form of gibbsite and lithium carbonate, heat treatment of the mechanically treated mixture at a temperature of 800-900°С, while the mechanical treatment of a mixture of aluminum hydroxide in the form of gibbsite with lithium carbonate is carried out in a ball mill at an angular rotation of the drum 120 rpm when the ratio of the mass of balls to the mixture to be treated is 10:1 for at least 4 hours.
EFFECT: invention ensures possibility of obtaining monophasic highly dispersed lithium pentaaluminate with a purity of more than 99% and a specific surface area of at least 40 m2/g on a semi-industrial scale.
