METHOD FOR MODIFIED SUPRAORBITAL CRANIOTOMY WHEN TREATING GIANT GLIOMAS IN CHILDREN Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC A61B17/00

Abstract RU 2714585 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to neurosurgery. Patient is placed on an operating table in a position on the back with rigid fixation of the head. Skin is incised along an eyebrow. That is followed by dissection of the circular muscle of the eye above the cranial muscle and the anterior edge of the temporal muscle; the milling hole is cut out. Filament process of the frontal bone and arched cutting of the supraorbital flap of the squama of frontal bone are performed. Then, a horizontal cut is performed along the base of the skull with the orbit bead and front 2/3 of its upper wall. That is followed by removing a portion of a large wing of the sphenoid bone and an anterolateral wall portion of the upper orbit. Thereafter, the dura mater is opened in an arch-like manner with the base downwards. Then the tumor is removed within healthy tissues, and the formed flap is put back into place and fixed by interrupted sutures and craniophixis.

EFFECT: method allows increasing free space for manipulation of microinstruments, as well as increasing angles of attack, minimizing traction and iatrogenic effect on brain, minimizing hospital stay and preventing post-operative liquorrhea.
