FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for control and measurement of weld seam defects. Essence of the invention consists in the fact that the method of monitoring and measuring the defects of the weld seam present in the cylindrical wall, such as the wall of the passage of the bottom of the nuclear reactor tank, comprises control head (4) forming a probe which has along a longitudinal axis (XX') a proximal end (EP) and a distal end (ED) and first side (42) of which, called the inner side, is provided with at least one ultrasonic wave converter, wherein said control head (4) comprises second side (43), called outer side and opposite to first side (42), having curvilinear surface in form of cylinder section with longitudinal axis parallel to longitudinal axis (XX') of head (4), and which concavity is facing outwardly; said wave converter consists of set (5) of adjacent elements (50), wherein each element (50) is both radiating and receiving, wherein the surface of set (5) is curvilinear and has the shape of a portion of the cylinder which has the same direction as the longitudinal axis (XX '), and whose concavity faces outwards; plane (P1), which includes two extreme generatrixes of cylinder section of second side (43) and forms with plane (P2), which contains two extreme generatrixes of said section of cylinder of wave converter (5), not equal to zero acute angle.
EFFECT: technical result is providing the possibility of accessing the weld/tube zone during operation outside with the most unfavorable radii of curvature.
