FIELD: defectoscopy.
SUBSTANCE: use: for ultrasonic flaw detection. Summary of invention consists in the fact that ultrasonic flaw detection device includes: a matrix probe which is located by means of a wedge on the outer peripheral surface of the welded steel pipe S, wherein this position allows the ultrasonic waves to fall vertically on the root surface of the weld, transmits the ultrasound waves focused in the direction of the pipe axis on the surface of the weld root, and receives the ultrasonic waves reflected from the root surface of the weld; ultrasonic wave transmission and reception unit, which controls the matrix probe, so that the matrix probe receives reflected ultrasonic waves reflected from the root surface of the weld; and a computing unit which detects a flat defect based on the reflected ultrasonic waves received by the ultrasonic wave transmission and reception unit.
EFFECT: reduced effect of change in the angle of incidence of ultrasonic waves on sensitivity of detection of defects and reduced change in sensitivity of detection of defects due to manual adjustment carried out by the operator.
