FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to stabilization of human deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and microorganisms present in complex biological samples, such as faeces. Disclosed are a method, an aqueous composition and a kit for stabilizing DNA contained in faeces or a sample contaminated with faeces, at ambient temperature. Said biological sample is brought into contact with an aqueous composition containing a chelating agent selected from ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) or 1,2-cyclohexane diamine tetraacetic acid (CDTA), in a concentration of approximately 150 mM to approximately 600 mM and having pH of 9.5 to 11.5. Obtained mixture is homogenised and stored at ambient temperature.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides fast and effective DNA capture and stabilization and "instantaneous fixation" of profiles of total DNA in biological samples at ambient temperature for long periods of time.
