SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and system for controlling an engine based on ambient air humidity based on output signals from oxygen sensors in suction air or in exhaust gases. According to one of the versions, it is possible to control operation of the oxygen content sensor in the sensor mode with voltage varied between the lower first voltage and the higher second voltage in order to obtain the oxygen content in the dry air. Then it is possible to proceed to measurement of humidity of ambient air on the basis of oxygen content in dry air and the third output signal of oxygen content sensor at operation not in mode of variable voltage, but with lower first voltage.

EFFECT: invention discloses engine control methods and systems based on assessment of ambient air humidity.
