FIELD: motor vehicle industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the internal combustion engines. Method for an engine system consists in that, in the absence of fuel supply to engine (10), when at least one intake valve (52) and one exhaust valve (54) are in operation, reference voltage of exhaust gas sensor (126) is modulated with intake throttle valve (62) closed and open. Engine wear (10) is signalled based on positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) flow, based on the reading of exhaust gas sensor (126) obtained during modulation. Method for engine and engine system are disclosed.

EFFECT: higher accuracy of humidity measurement.
