FIELD: internal combustion engines.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in internal combustion engine control system. Methods are provided for accurately learning variability of intake or exhaust oxygen sensor readings. Correction factor is learned based on a sensor reading in dry air conditions, the dry air reading learned by applying a higher reference voltage to the sensor, which causes dissociation of water molecules. Ethanol transfer function is then adjusted based on the learned correction factor so as to improve the accuracy of combusted fuel ethanol content estimation.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the reliability of the output signal of the oxygen sensor, which is necessary to improve the performance of the engine, in particular to reduce toxicity and improve fuel saving.
