FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, namely, to methods of steel melting in arc steel-making furnaces of three-phase current. Proposed method comprises charging of charge, ignition of vertical electric arcs between cathode electrodes and charge, melting of charge to form well and bath of liquid metal, discharge of slag and steel from furnace. Fusion of charge is performed with formation of well in form of inverted truncated cone with three long vertical AC alternating-current arcs, and after fusion of 70 % charge and achieving specific power consumption of 220–240 kW·h/t melting is carried out by three short vertical AC electric arcs.
EFFECT: invention allows to reduce specific power consumption and time of melting with simultaneous increase of efficiency.
