FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum-plasma application of wear-resistant coating of nitride or carbonitride of niobium, titanium and chromium compounds is carried out at the following ratio, at%: niobium 51.3, titanium 36.3, chromium 12.4. Coating is applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane, the first and the second of which are made from niobium and located opposite to each other, and the third one is made of titanium and chromium compound and placed between them.
EFFECT: result of application of the wear-resistant coating is higher cutting efficiency of the tool.
