FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods of application of wear resistant coatings on a cutting tool and can be used in metalworking. Vacuum-plasma application of a wear-resistant coating of nitride or carbonitride of a compound of niobium, zirconium and chromium at their ratio, at. %: niobium 48.9, zirconium 38.8, chromium 12.3. Coating is applied by three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane, the first and the second of which are made from niobium and are located opposite to each other, and the third cathode is made from zirconium and chrome and placed between them.
EFFECT: increased functionality of cutting tool.
