FIELD: production of composite materials.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to composite material which reversibly changes color under action of deformation, which can be used for coating cables. Described is a composite article containing an extrudable thermoplastic matrix and a photochromic dye. Said matrix contains acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene in ratio of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, wt %: from 15 to 35: from 5 to 30: from 40 to 60 respectively. Method of producing said product involves adding a photochromic dye into an extrudable thermoplastic matrix to form a mixture and heating the obtained mixture to form a composite material. Photochromic dye gives the composite material the property of reversibly changing color under action of deformation. Described also is a coated cable, coating of which contains said composite material.
EFFECT: invention enables visual determination of mechanical stresses in a wire based on the property of reversible color change under action of deformation.
