SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing tetrahydrofuran (THF) and 1,4-butanediol (1,4-BDO) from furan. Disclosed is a method of producing THF and 1,4-BDO from furan in the presence of a catalyst composition, wherein the catalyst composition contains at least one metal selected from a group consisting of Fe, Ru, Os, Co, Rh, Ir, Ni, Pd, Pt, and optionally contains one or more additional metals on a solid support, said method comprising the following steps: (i) bringing furan into contact with hydrogen and water in a reactor in the presence of said catalyst composition for a certain period of time; (ii) stopping the furan stream and the water stream into the reactor and removing furan and water from the reactor; (iii) regenerating the catalyst composition by exposing the catalyst composition to a gas stream containing hydrogen at temperature of 250 to 450 °C with no furan and water; (iv) resuming furan flow and water flow into reactor.
EFFECT: technical result is providing a method for regenerating a heterogeneous catalyst of said process, which is also suitable for catalysts containing carbon as a substrate.
